Yoga is not practicing asanas with your body, but with your soul.
— Konstantinos Tournas
Konstantinos Tournas has been devoted to the path of Yoga since 2006 and has been teaching continuously since 2007. Based in Heraklion, Crete, his daily practice and teaching reflect a lifelong commitment to Yoga as a holistic, spiritual, and embodied discipline.
His journey has taken him five times to India, where he studied with teachers who have dedicated their entire lives to Yoga in all its dimensions. Among his early influences was Manju Jois, and a pivotal moment in his path came in May 2018 in Goa, where he studied intensively for three weeks with Rolf and Marci Naujokat. This experience opened a new and profound understanding of the depth, intelligence, and healing power of Ashtanga Yoga.
In 2009, Konstantinos completed a one-year residential training at the Art of Living Ashram in Germany, located in the Black Forest. There, under the guidance of the world-renowned spiritual teacher Sri Sri Ravi Shankar, he was trained in Hatha Yoga, pranayama, relaxation techniques, meditation, and mantra. The program also included silence retreats, Ayurveda, nutrition, and healing practices. He describes this period as deeply transformative, celestial, and uniquely constructive.
He is an authorized Art of Living teacher, qualified to teach Sudarshan Kriya, a powerful and unique breathing technique. For the following two years, he was responsible for the Art of Living Center in Hamburg, where he taught daily yoga classes, meditation, and breathing seminars. During this time, he also studied classical yogic texts such as the Yoga Sutras of Patanjali, the Ashtavakra Gita, and Narada Bhakti Sutras, all under the guidance of Sri Sri Ravi Shankar.
In 2012, Konstantinos moved to Granada, Spain, where he continued teaching for a year, while immersing himself in the culture, music, and warm-hearted spirit of the city.
Returning to Crete in 2013, he completed trainings in Thai Massage and Reiki, and also undertook a seven-year cycle of group psychotherapy, deepening his understanding of the human psyche and healing processes.
In 2015, he completed the Pranic Healing seminars (Preparatory Arhatic Yogi), a powerful non-touch energy healing system.
In 2017, during his second journey to Bangalore, India, he was initiated into Upanayanam, a primordial Indian ceremony marking initiation into sacred knowledge.
Drawn to the therapeutic and meditative depth of stillness, Konstantinos trained in Yin Yoga, completing his Yoga Alliance–certified Yin Yoga Teacher Training in Mallorca in June 2019, after personally experiencing the profound healing effects of the practice.
Seeking deeper roots in tradition, in February 2020 he traveled to Chennai, India, to study with Srivatsa Ramaswami, the longest-standing student of Sri T. Krishnamacharya outside the master’s immediate family. There, Konstantinos completed and was authorized in the Advanced 100-hour Vinyasa Krama Yoga Teacher Training. He was deeply inspired by the purity, authenticity, and simplicity of the method, which has since become an integral part of his daily practice. He continues to study with Srivatsa Ramaswami through ongoing online workshops and through the study of the Yoga Rahasya.
Committed to remaining a lifelong student, Konstantinos participated in the month-long intensive teacher training with Richard Freeman and Mary Taylor in July 2023 in Boulder, Colorado (USA). This profound training illuminated the internal and esoteric dimensions of Ashtanga Yoga, emphasizing intelligent, conscious practice and the awakening of the body–mind’s innate intelligence. The training included a cadaver lab, offering deep insight into anatomy, muscles, fascia, and internal organs. He was also initiated into Tibetan sitting meditation, which now forms an essential part of both his personal practice and teaching approach.
In September 2024, he completed the Yin Yoga Teacher Training Intensive (Secondary Level) with Sarah and Ty Powers, a rich integration of Yoga, Buddhism, Taoism, and transpersonal psychology. This training further refined his ability to weave long-held Yin postures, meridian and organ awareness, inquiry practice, and mindful flow into a cohesive and heart-centered approach.
Konstantinos is also a tenor singer and an active member of Phonodia, a choir performing works by Mozart, Monteverdi, and Greek composers such as Manos Hatzidakis. He regularly practices and leads kirtan, which he considers essential for opening the heart and cultivating devotion.
Since October 2025, Konstantinos has been an active member of the philosophical study group Omilos Meleton, through which he continues to deepen his understanding of Yoga as a holistic path toward the realization of the True Self. His studies and practice within the group focus primarily on Advaita Vedanta, enriching both his personal sādhanā and his teaching with clarity, discernment, and non-dual insight.
He lives in Crete, offering daily yoga classes in Heraklion, as well as yoga retreats throughout Europe and India, guiding students with humility, depth, and a profound respect for tradition.
